Pardubice City

Historical centre of the city combines gothic and renaissance elements. It’s worth taking a walk through the market square, up the stairs to the 60-metre high Green Gate where you can see the Pardubice Palace and Kunětická hora Castle!

The borders of the urban conservation area of Pardubice is strictly related to the original reach of the city walls and the location of the palace with ramparts. A neo-renaissance city hall with a baroque Marian Column standing in front of it towers above the old market. The Green Gate, which is 60-metre high, is the preserved element of the city fortification. The most interesting baroque monument of Pardubice is a tenement house no. 50 by the market square called “U Jonáše”. On the ground floor of the tenement house, there is a preserved net vault dated back to the early 16th century. The city is most famous for the Pardubice Palace. It’s an exceptional example of a transitional form between a castle and a palace. It was built under the reign of the Pernštejn family at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, and currently it houses the Museum of East Bohemia and East Bohemian Gallery.

St. Bartholomew Roman-Catholic Church is located near the historical city centre and is built at the place of the former monastery. One the oldest buildings in Pardubice, there is also the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary which in the middle of the 14th century was founded by Arnošt of Pardubice.
