Pilgrimage Church of the Holy Cross in Pietrowice Wielkie

The wooden church of the Holy Cross is located on the way from Pietrowice Wielkie to Gródczanki.

It is a timbered construction, and its gable roof is covered with shingles.  The church was built in the 17th century near the spring where, as a legend says, local shepherds found a painting depicting the Crucified Saviour. In 1743 the sanctuary was enlarged, and in 1783 Father Anzelm Kotterba obtained from Pope Pius VI indulgences for church pilgrims. This is evidenced by inscriptions in Moravian, Latin and German found inside the temple. The interior design of the church is Baroque; in the main altar there is an image of Christ Crucified, while in the side altars there are paintings of St. Anna and Our Lady of the Rosary.

Apart from indulgence feasts, during which masses are held in several languages, the church plays witness to traditional horse processions on Easter Monday. The area surrounding the church is beautifully arranged, and it is a perfect place for rest and reverie. The church can be admired from the outside all year round, while visitors can visit it inside during the services that are held there.
