Merkur is the name of trains and toy metal construction sets which were created in Police nad Metuji at the beginning of the last century.
The Merkur tradition dates back to 1920, when Mr Jaroslav Vancl founded his company called Inventor. Five years later, the company started the production of a new toy construction set which survived in an unchanged form up to the present day. The Merkur Toy Construction Sets Museum presents this history. It may also boast the largest construction built with the Merkur toy construction sets and entered in the Guinness Book of World Records – “The Steel City”, inspired by the adventures described in the Julius Verne’s novel under the same title.
